Brief Encounters TV Review: Four women in early ’80s Sheffield have an overwhelming desire to improve their lot in life. The series follow them juggling the pressures of family, husbands and making ends meet, striving for happiness and fulfillment. A chance encounter between Steph (Sophie Rundle) and Nita (Angela Griffin) kick starts a transformation as they grasp the opportunity to become Ann Summers party organisers. So Pauline (Penelope Wilton), for whom Steph is a cleaner, agrees to host a party, inviting amongst others the bubbly and confident Dawn (Sharon Rooney). Via exotic lingerie, the four unlikely friends blossom, gaining confidence and independence as their ambition is ignited.
