Girl with a Pearl Earring Movie Review: Griet (Scarlett Johansson) is a shy girl living in the Dutch Republic in 1665. Her father is a Delftware painter and has recently gone blind. Therefore he is unable to work and puts his family in a precarious financial situation. To help matters, Griet is sent to work as a maid in the household of famed painter Johannes Vermeer (Colin Firth).

The producer does a great job of trying to portray Vermeer’s painting throughout the film. Also it is stunning and beautiful.
