When Lyra’s friend Roger disappears, she and her dæmon, Pantalaimon, determine to find him.

This is the first book in a gripping and exciting series. The storyline is engaging and full of fantasy and adventure. There is a film adaptation of this novel ‘The Golden Compass’ which is pretty good too.
There are some dark and sinister parts in the book so if your child is sensitive, just to beware.
